Obituary for Madge Ileana Hardy (Bunker)

Maryville, Missouri—Madge Ileana (Bunker) Hardy, 88, Maryville, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015 in St. Joseph, Missouri at Mosaic Life Care Hospital.

Madge was born December 31, 1926 in Grant City, Missouri to Garnet and Goldie (Proctor) Bunker. Madge married Earl Hardy on July 18, 1945 in Troy, Kansas.

Survivors include her children David (Carolyn) Hardy, Grant City; Barbara (Jim) Matteson, Bartlesville, OK; Karen (Frank) Ross, Ames, IA; Mike (Carolyn) Hardy, Maryville; Pat (Sue ) Hardy, Grant City; Janice (Chuck) Borey, Grant City; Darla Runyon, Maryville; and James (Peggy) Hardy, Afton, IA; twenty-four grandchildren: Julia (Moore) Wideman, Jane Gabriel, Susan Newman, Cynthia Studer, Brian Hardy, Joe Matteson, Zachary Ross, Jacob Ross, Brandon Ross, Jerome Starke, Jonathan Starke, Tonya Hardy, Tony Hardy, Tylor Hardy, Brett Hardy, Bart Hardy, Brad Hardy, Jared Harding, Jana Harding, Jessica Borey, Levi Runyon, Jaque Runyon, Joshua Hardy, and Elizabeth Hardy; twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Pauline Andrews, brother Garnet Wesley Bunker, husband Earl, and daughter Nancy.

Madge graduated from Grant City High School in 1944. She attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers’ College in 1944 where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in the Pleasant Valley one-room, country school for one year before marrying Earl on July 18, 1945. Madge worked for Dunn & Brad Street in Columbia, South Carolina while waiting for Earl to be discharged from the Army.

Madge and Earl made their home in Grant City, Missouri, with their family, and farmed for many years. Madge and Earl retired to Maryville in 1990 where they enjoyed visiting with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.

Madge was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She took great pleasure in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild and their many accomplishments. Madge was a member of the Grant City Baptist Church since baptism. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, July 15, 2015 at the Grant City Baptist Church in Grant City from 5-7 p.m., where funeral services are set for Thursday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Grant City Cemetery.

Flower arrangements and plants may be sent to the Hann Funeral Home in Grant City. Memorial gifts may be made payable to the Worth County Education Foundation and designated for the Earl and Madge Hardy Education Scholarship: Janice Borey, 19973 140th Road, Grant City, Missouri 64456. This scholarship is in support of a graduating senior continuing his/her education.
