Brenda was born to Kenneth and Betty Smith, January 13, 1960, in Mt. Ayr, IA. She graduated from Worth County High School in 1978 and received a secretarial certificate from Northwest Missouri State University in 1979. She married her high school sweetheart, Burton Miller, on September 1, 1979, and they lived north of Allendale, MO on the family farm for the entirety of their 39-year marriage.

Brenda is survived by husband Burton Miller of Allendale, MO, her two children: Renae (Jesse) Jones of Boulder, CO, April (Chris) Healy of Grant City, MO, and four grandchildren: Jerex and Jaxton Jones, Brock and Gwyn Healy. She also leaves her mother: Betty Smith of Allendale, MO and two siblings: Kyle (Carey) Smith of Brookfield, MO and Sherry (Chris) Hill of Ashland, MO and mother-in-law: Alice Miller of Allendale, MO and in-laws: Marshall (Joy) Miller of Allendale, MO, Doug (Dee) Miller of Carthage, MO, Joel (Roxanne) Miller of Grant City, MO, and her nieces and nephews: Dylan Miller, Alissa (Colt) Ridge, Katie Miller, Grant Miller, Jeremy Hill, Kristen Hill, Kaley Smith and great niece Malea Ridge along with many aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Smith and maternal grandparents Weldon and Dale Brown, her paternal grandparents Rufus Smith and Emil (Smith) Owens, and father-in-law Lyle Miller.

Brenda accepted Jesus as her savior at a young age and was later baptized at the Grant City Christian Church on June 9, 2002. During her early years, Brenda was a caregiver for her two younger siblings and also took an active role in helping with the household chores. In high school she was known for her athleticism and enjoyed cheerleading and had an excellent outside shot in basketball. After Brenda married Burton, she worked as a secretary before pausing her career to stay home to raise her two daughters. Brenda loved watching her girls perform and never missed a game or event that they were involved in. She went back to work from 1994 to 2014 at the Northwest Medical Center. After retiring, she and Burton enjoyed being grandparents and many sunset drives together around the farm. Brenda loved her family, her church family and her friends, and was happiest when she was surrounded by those she cared about.

Brenda had a servant’s heart and was always looking for ways to help others. She was on the founding Board of Directors for Mission Possible Food Pantry/Thrift Store. Brenda was also on the board of the Worth County Partnership Library and assisted with the initial build & expansion work. She also served as treasurer and Sunday school teacher of the Grant City Christian Church for many years.

Brenda bravely fought cancer twice in her life and through it all was an inspiration for her optimism and faith in Jesus Christ.
