Obituary for Ilene Shipley (Nicholson)

Ilene Shipley, age 87, Grant City, Missouri died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Worth County Convalescent Center in Grant City.

Ilene was born August 2, 1926 and grew up in the “Toad Holler” community East of Burlington Junction, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Emory Bliss and Lela (Wray) Nicholson.

Ilene was a 1945 graduate of Hopkins High School, Hopkins, Missouri. She also received a teaching certificate from Northwest Teacher College, Maryville, Missouri.

Ilene was united in marriage to Jay B. Shipley, May 21, 1950 in Maryville. Ilene and Jay spent most of their married life in Isadora, Missouri. She was a rural school teacher prior to her marriage.

She was a member of the Grant City United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Preceding her in death was her sister Eva Walker.

Survivors include: Husband Jay B. Shipley of the home, Grant City, two sons
John (Martha) Shipley, St. Joseph, Missouri, Dale (Anne) Shipley, Warsaw, Missouri, one brother Walter Nicholson, Lenox, Iowa, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
